Real Property Tax Laws
Real properties generally are of like-kind, regardless of whether the properties are improved or unimproved. If one of the properties is outside of the United States, however, the rules change.
Our understanding of the rulings and nuances of like-kind exchanges is something we take great pride in sharing with our clients. Exchanges of this nature, including tax-free exchanges, need to be documented properly, and we can assist with that. We also counsel clients on the proper timing for such transactions so that the exchange falls within the statute qualifying for a tax-free exchange.
