Michigan Freedom of Information Act Law
What is the Freedom of Information Act?
The Michigan legislature adopted the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). FOIA provides that a person has a right to inspect, copy, or receive copies of requested public records. We advise our clients regarding compliance with FOIA in responding to requests for documents and on making the appropriate information available based on state requirements.
Open Meetings Act
We counsel clients regarding the requirements of the Open Meetings Act. This includes offering guidance on all issues pertaining to conducting legal and effective meetings, including issues related to closed sessions, minute taking, notices, parliamentary procedure, voting, quorums, special meetings, and requests for documents.
