Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Liquor Licenses

Legislation in the past couple of years has authorized a new type of liquor license in Michigan for businesses located within a Downtown Development Authority. However, these licenses have well-defined limitations and rules and only allow for on premises sales. To receive a DDA license, you must show the following:

  • The business provides activities determined by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to be related to dining, entertainment or recreation at least five days a week;
  • The business is open to the public at least ten hours per day, five days a week; and
  • The business demonstrates the DDA status to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.

The licensee may not transfer the license to another location outside of the DDA. The fee charged by the State of Michigan for the license is $20,000.

We have experience assisting our clients with obtaining these licenses and weeding through the requirements to obtain such license. If you would like additional information, please contact us.
